Most problems with Spectrum WiFi can be resolved by resetting your home network. Here are some general tips for fixing Spectrum WiFi problems.
Check the Cables
Any loose cables from your modem to your router can disrupt the internet connection. Here’s how to systematically check the cables.
- Ensure that the coax cable is properly connected to the modem.
- Ensure that the Ethernet cable (running to the router) is properly connected to the modem.
- Ensure that the other end of the Ethernet cable is connected to the router.
Tip: Try pulling out and reconnecting all the cables. If there is a loose cable in the network, you may need to restart the equipment to get the internet working.
Restart WiFi Equipment
Restarting your WiFi equipment resets your home network, which can resolve temporary WiFi issues. Here’s how to do it manually:
Note: Do not restart the equipment manually if you have fiber equipment. Instead, restart the equipment with the My Spectrum App.
If you have a modem and a WiFi router:
- Turn off the modem and router.
- Unplug the modem and router from the power source.
- Wait for 60 seconds.
- Plug the modem back in and wait until all lights are stable.
- Plug the router back in and wait for it to start.
If you have a WiFi Gateway (modem + WiFi router combo):
- Turn off the gateway.
- Unplug the gateway from the power source.
- Wait for 60 seconds.
- Plug the gateway back in and wait for it to start.
If this doesn’t work, the issue is probably outside your home network.
Check for Interference
Your home WiFi signals can interfere with other nearby WiFi routers, baby monitors, cordless phones, Bluetooth devices, Microwave ovens, etc. when these devices are using the same radio band as your router (typically 2.4 GHz). Walls, furniture, and large metal devices can also block WiFi signals.
Interference can result in WiFi dead zones: places in the house where WiFi signals are weak and internet speeds are slow.
To minimize interference, place the WiFi router at a central location in the house. Also, make sure there are no electronic devices near the router that may cause interference.
Tip: If you use a portable WiFi device or a mobile hotspot, turn it off when you’re at home. You can also set your routers to different non-interfering channels to avoid interference.

Spectrum Internet Troubleshooting
Unreliable connections and slow speeds can be caused by a range of problems, some of which you can resolve yourself. Here’s how to troubleshoot Spectrum Internet service.
Run a Speed Test
If you’re experiencing slow speeds, run an internet speed test to check your download and upload speeds. You should expect speeds close to what you’re paying for.
If the speed test shows unreliable speeds, the following steps may help. If nothing works, consider switching internet providers.
Check the Cables
Loose cables result in slow speeds, intermittent internet, and lost connection altogether.
Restarting your WiFi equipment can resolve connectivity issues and increase internet speeds. Here’s how to do it through the My Spectrum App:
- Download and sign in to the My Spectrum App if you haven’t already.
- Launch the My Spectrum App.
- Tap the Services tab at the bottom.
- In the Service tab, tap the router/modem you want to restart, and then tap “Restart Equipment?”.
- Confirm to restart the device.
If you have a Gateway (modem + WiFi router combo), you only need to restart the Gateway.
Note: Some equipment may not have the option to reset directly from the My Spectrum App. Instead, restart the equipment manually.
Check Connectivity on Multiple Devices
It could be that the problem is with your device and not the home internet. Test the connection on multiple devices to see if the problem persists.
If it’s just one device, try restarting the device and resetting the network settings on the device. If none of your devices can connect and nothing else so far works, it’s probably an outage.
Check for Outages
Visit Spectrum’s Outage Information and Troubleshooting page to learn about outages in your area. You can also check social media platforms for updates from Spectrum or other users experiencing an outage.
