Frankie Diaz

CLASS 2025

Frankie Diaz

School: Monterey High School

Initial Thoughts:

Frankie Diaz is a very talented midfielder from Monterey High School. Diaz is quick on his feet and possesses the ability to navigate tight spaces before finding his way in front of the net. Diaz was able to add 27 goals towards his teams goal tally during their 2022-23 season, which is a huge feat for an under classmen. It’s clear that Diaz has the potential to be the real deal, now the only option is to wait and see how he continues to develop.

Size Profile:

Diaz is a very lean athlete, and while he’s of average height, he wouldn’t be very intimidating off of looks alone. What Diaz has to his advantage is the fact that he has excellent lateral movement and is very quick. Diaz moves from left to right just as good as most people move forwards or backwards. This ability gives him the opportunity to throw defenders off balance and get around them in various ways. For what Diaz lacks in size, he makes up for it in effort and talent.

Skill Set:

I really enjoy the way that Frankie Diaz moves when the ball gets to his feet. He uses quick, soft touches to cut the edge on those defending him or cuts left and right to zigzag his way through the opposition. Diaz has a great touch and is very methodical with the way he moves on and off the ball. Diaz has an excellent shot and is very dangerous from all angles on the goal.

Attacking Preference:

Diaz finds a lot of success when coming onto the ball in the center of the pitch and using his vision to move laterally through the defenders ahead of him. He maintains his focus on the attacking opportunity and methodically moves the ball up the field before firing a shot onto goal. Diaz also focuses on keeping the play in front of him and capitalizes on the opportunity to dash into the attack and quickly fire an opportunity on net.

Final Thoughts:

Frankie Diaz scored 27 goals and added 14 assist, for a total of 41 goal contributions during his sophom*ore year. He scored goals from outside the box, he scored goals from the spot, and he scored goals in nearly every other aspect as well. I am extremely excited to see how much Diaz improves over this offseason and cannot wait to witness the success that he’ll surely have during his junior year. With the courage to take on the defender, the ability to strike and play the ball with both feet and a clear high soccer IQ; Diaz is a must watch for anyone who loves the beautiful game. Coming off a Player of the Year award, I’m sure Diaz will do even better this year.

Tucker Eason

HEIGHT 6'3"

POS F

CLASS 2025

Tucker Eason

School: Lone Star High School

Initial Thoughts:rnTucker Eason was an integral piece in Frisco Lone Star’s glamourous run within the Texas high school soccer 5A state playoffs. Having contributed 7 goals and 4 assist during the playoffs alone, it’s safe to say that Frisco Lone Star would have had a much rougher path to this championship without him. Eason is a dangerous man to be across from if you’re an opposing defensive player. His long reach and surprisingly quick pace make him very dangerous on the attack.

Size Profile:rnTucker Eason is a 6’3 forward and he’s only a junior. A man after Peter Crouch’s own heart, Eason is a dominant force in the air and in front of goal when attacking. He can use his size to body the opposing defenders away and has the skill to turn and finish on net. Another size benefit of Eason’s is that he isn’t frail, he fits his frame well despite his height.

Skill Set:rnEason has gifts when it comes to attacking play. He can finish from nearly all angles due to his prowess in the air and shooting ability. Eason seems to be comfortable on the ball and doesn’t mind dribbling into dangerous spaces. Eason maintains his composure in and around the box, picking his moments wisely. He is intelligent enough to identify weaknesses in the defense and capitalize on their mistakes.

Attacking Preference:rnTucker Eason scored 21 goals and 11 assist in 27 games for Lone Star last year. He typically maintained his position in front of net but was not afraid of getting to the edge of the box. Eason is always looking for shots with a bit of an angle to them. Eason uses his height to his advantage, yet has the ability to draw fouls in areas that lead to dangerous chances.

Final Thoughts:rnFrisco Lone Star found so much success within the 5A UIL State Championship due to Tucker Eason’s ability to dominate the attack. Without Eason’s goal scoring prowess, Lone Star would have had a much harder time trying to overcome the tougher teams in their region. It’s unquestionable that Eason is one of the brightest up and coming stars within Texas high school soccer. Eason more than deserves all the credibility that he’s gaining amongst his peers.

Zane Johnson

HEIGHT 5'7"

POS F

CLASS 2025

Zane Johnson

School: Ranchview High School

Initial Thoughts:

Zane Johnson was able to contribute directly towards 33 goals in only 22 matches played for Ranchview during his sophom*ore season. Scoring 23 goals and adding 10 assist, Johnson was one of the most dangerous attackers in his district. I’m really interest to see how much Johnson was able to improve during the offseason. The crafty attacker was already superb with the ball at his feet during dangerous situations.

Size Profile:

Johnson is relatively average when it comes to Texas high school soccer players. He seems to be fairly strong and uses his body well to win the ball and beat his man before finishing on net. He has a good center of gravity and doesn’t seem to have any trouble with a high pressing attacking line. If he grows a little more over the next two seasons, Johnson should be a fairly sizable force for defenses to worry about.

Skill Set:

Johnson is very good with the ball at his feet in tight spaces. Johnson can bring the ball down from the air with pressure on him and get clear of pressure. Even after controlling the ball he still has the composure necessary to get a shot off or play a feeding pass towards his teammates. Johnson has the ability to score with either foot and maintains good aerial ability as well. Johnson is without question a very skillful player.

Attacking Preference:

Johnson found himself becoming an integral aspect in the Ranchview attack during his first year on varsity. He makes diagonal runs into space and receives the ball before trying his luck for a shot. His linking play is very good and seems to have a high soccer IQ, especially when playing balls against the backline. Johnson is calm under pressure and can use his pace to get behind the backline to beat the keeper in a 1v1.

Final Thoughts:

Zane Johnson is a very good talent within Texas high school soccer’s 2025 class. He is confident on the attack and has no fear of defenders with more experience than himself. He is clearly comfortable having the ball at his feet and can use his speed to beat other players to the ball. Johnson uses his dribbling skills to capitalize on the opportunities given to him. Johnson will score his team goals and I cannot wait to see how he develops over his junior and senior years.

There is so much up and coming talent within Texas high school soccer. One of the brightest aspects in all of Texas’ soccer scene is the class of 2025 and the outstanding level of potential these players possess. There is large levels of talent throughout the entire state and these players are quickly become forces of their own. Despite being more inexperienced when compared to some of their peers, they continue to impress. This experience gap hasn’t discouraged these athletes from competing with the best and gaining their own recognition within the Texas high school soccer spotlight.

Player of the Year trophies, All-State awards, All-District medals and State Championship rings; the class of 2025 has begun labeling itself as one of the most talented classes in the history of Texas high school soccer. The future is bright for these athletes and there is no doubt that they will continue to improve over their junior and senior campaigns. As these players age into upper classmen and continue to develop, they will surely begin to grow the sport even further and help to create even more talent in the future. It’ll be a joy to continue to cover and witness these stars in the making.
