So you've finished the campaign and you want to get cracking on the side quests. Well go ahead.... You need guidance? Then, read on, Mr Marston.

For some time you might have been wondering around the game world wondering what the purple "?" marks are. Well I'll tell you, they are strangers. Life tells you not to talk to strangers, but Rockstar has a different view. Strangers will pay you good money in exchange for you to do quirky missions for them.

Completing one of them will unlock:

• Strange Things are Afoot

  Complete a task for a Stranger.

Completing 15 will unlock:

• People are Still Strange

  Complete 15 tasks for Strangers.

If you have followed the last page, you would have received this after completing Part 3 of I Know You or Remember My Family.

You need to complete 18 / 19 for 100% Completion. I Know You is not required as it is missable.

I will put them in alphabetical order for easier reference for those that have beaten the storyline. I have also added which mission(s) need to be completed in order to unlock each mission and/or part.

The mission that has to completed before each part will be in (italics). Some side missions require you to complete other side missions before it will be accessible. This will also be included in the (italics).

If you have completed a stage of the side mission and wish to continue with the next stage, there are a few things you can do instead of waiting days for it to load. One section in California takes 9 days unless you use these methods:

• Reload your last auto-save after completing a stage.
• Go to sleep in a house or camp and save it. The game progresses by 6 hours after a save.

You may need to save it a couple of times for it to work.

1. American Appetites

Part 1 (Political Realities in Armadillo)

This starts in Armadillo, near the Sheriff’s office. A lady is in tears as her son is missing. After the cutscene, head to the hills near the Hanging Rock. Then go to the marker to discover something.

Part 2 (Justice in Pike’s Basin)

This starts in the same place as Part 1. The man’s wife is missing in the same place as little Ralph, the son from Part 1. Go check the hills again.

Part 3 (Wild Horses, Tamed Passions)

A woman is inside the same office and says her husband is missing. Head out to the icon on the map and you will meet a man who claims to be assaulted by a city man. Find and lasso the culprit. Then bring him back to the 1^st man. You then have 3 choices: let them be; free the lassoed man and kill/lasso the other man; or kill both.

2. American Lobbyist

(An Appointed Time)

Go to the gazebo in Blackwater where you will find a man who gives you some photos. Take them to the Bank between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. and blackmail the target. After, return to the mission giver.

3. Aztec Gold

(Must a Savior Die?)

You need to head to Sidewinder Gulch and find Basilio. You are required to head to three locations to find pieces of a treasure map and then give the map to Basilio in El Matadero. Then you need to head to a cave near the town. After a short cutscene, the mission is complete. Here is a video of the locations of the treasure:

4. California

(Women and Cattle)

You will find Sam north of the Scratching Post. Talk to him. After a few days, he will appear at Cueva Seca, confused. Talk to him and then his next appearance will be near Tumbleweed. His final appearance will be at south of Tumbleweed. Then take Sam’s letter to Armadillo to be posted.

5. Deadalus and Son

(We Will Be Together in Paradise)

You will find a man on the cliffside near Agave Viejo. He requires some items that you need to collect:

• Bird Feathers x 20 – easy enough, birds are everywhere
• Beaver Furs x 5 - there is a hut in Tall Trees, near the Aurora Basin. The river is a great location to find them. Be aware of bears
• Red Sage x 10 – they are found in Rio Bravo.

Once you have collected all of these items, head back to the man. Wait a couple of days and return to him to complete the mission.

6. Eva in Peril

(Lucky in Love)

Head to Casa Madrugada. Behind the buildings is a man called Mario beating a woman named Eva. Pay Mario $200 for her release. After a few days have passed, head to the church in Las Hermanas. Find the nun and ask about Eva. Then head to Sepulcro and duel Mario.

7. Flowers for a Lady

(Old Friends, New Problems)

You will find old Billy in Stillwater Creek. He wants you to collect some flowers for his wife. Collect them and return to him to complete the mission. The flowers you need are:

• Wild Feverfew x 3 – can be found in Hennigan’s Stead
• Desert Sage x 3 – in Gaptooth Ridge
• Red Sage x 3 – in Rio Bravo.

8. Funny Man

Part 1 (Exhuming and Other Fine Hobbies)

Jimmy is sat inside the train station at Benedict Point, waiting for a chat.

Part 2 (Man is Born Unto Trouble)

Jimmy will be all tied up inside the mine in Gaptooth Breach. You may have to kill some Treasure Hunters on the way in and out in order to save him.

Part 3

Jimmy is all tied up again. This time he's inside Pike’s Basin. Save him again.

Part 4 (Empty Promises)

The last time you have to save him. Head to Tesoro Azul. Save him and send him on his way.

9. I Know You

I highly recommend doing this mission whilst playing through the storyline as it is very intriguing and many theories have been given. Play all 3 parts and then have a think about what happened. Who is the Strange Man? Once you complete all the story missions, read this: http://reddead.wikia.com/wiki/Strange_Man/Speculation. BEWARE SPOLIERS! WAIT UNTIL THE END OF THE STORY. It is very interesting.

Part 1 (A Tempest Looms)

Head SW of MacFarlane's Ranch to the purple question mark, to Mescalero. Listen to the Strange Man then head to Thieves’ Landing to look for a man. Talk to the man and either encourage or discourage his activities.

Part 2 (We Shall Be Together In Paradise)

This time, speak with the Strange Man (purple question mark) not too far from El Materdo. He asks you to go Las Hermanas and speak with the Nun. You can either rob her or give her money, your call.

Part 3 (An Appointed Time)

Head to Beecher's Hope to find the Strange Man for the final time. All you have to do is speak to him and the mission is completed.

If you have completed the mission, The Last Enemy That Shall Be Destroyed, then this cannot be done.

10. Jenny’s Faith

(This is Armadillo, USA)

Jenny was on the train in the very first mission. She was talking to the priest. She is now east of Ridgewood Farm and has taken a turn for the worse. Speak with her then head to the doctor in Armadillo to purchase some medicine. Bring it to her.

11. Let No Man Put Asunder

(Obstacles in our Path)

Head to Coot’s Chapel. Speak with Alma Horlick who is standing there in her wedding dress. Next, ride to the Armadillo Saloon and look for the piano player. He will help you if you pay him $5 or you convince his wife to return to him. It is your choice. After you have some information, head to Odd Fellow’s Rest where you will find Peter.

12. Lights, Camera, Action

Part 1 (The Sport of Kings, and Liars)

After having an old chinwag with MacKenna in Armadillo’s cinema, head to Thieves' Landing and win the land deed during a game of Liar’s Dice. Benedict Point will be your next destination. Here you will duel a man but only disarm him. Do not kill him.

Part 2 (An Appointed Time)

Speak with MacKenna at the Pacific Union Railroad Camp. Mission complete.

13. Love is the Opiate

(Empty Promises & Poppyco*ck side mission)

This will start at the butchery in El Matadero. Talk with Zhou and de la Vara. Then you need to find a Hungarian Half-Bred (image below). If you do not have the deed, then you can find one in Mesa del Sol. Once you have one, deliver it back to de la Vara. After a couple of days, you can find Zhou at Chuparosa train station. Talk to him to finish the mission.

14. Poppyco*ck

(Civilization, at Any Price)

Head to Chuparosa and talk to Uriah Tollets. Go to Nosalida and pick up the package from the docks. Take the package to Juan de la Vara in El Matadero and collect the payment from him. Return to Tollets and decide whether to give him the money; kill him; or both.

Unlocks: Completion of this unlocks the side mission ‘Love is the Opiate’, which is listed above ‘Poppyco*ck’

15. The Prohibitionist

(The Wronged Woman side mission)

TIP: After completing this side mission, house prices may double depending on your actions. You may wish to buy all of the property first then complete this.

Talk to the preacher outside Blackwater Saloon. Then talk to the bar owner who is near the docks. Then you have the option to kill or spare the preacher’s life.

16. Remember My Family

(The Last Enemy That Shall Be Destroyed)

This is counted as a side mission but is technically the final mission. Head to the ‘?’ in Blackwater. Then head to the Lake Don Julio and speak with the person there. Then ride to near the San Luis River and speak with a guy at a campsite. Then head a short walk down the river and challenge that person to a duel. Beat him and then the credits roll. After that, you can search the dead body and get at least $400.

You will also unlock the following achievement for completion of this ‘side’ mission:

• Nurture or Nature?

  Complete "Remember My Family".

17. Water and Honesty

(Political Realities in Armadillo)

If you travel to MacFarlane’s Ranch from Armadillo, you will find a camp site just off the main road. If you look on your map, it is to the right of Coot’s Chapel. Talk to the gentleman sat at the fire. Then head to Pleasance House. Speak with the land owner about the deed. You can either pay for the deed or take it by force. Finally, return to the camp site.

18. Who Are You to Judge?

(Liars, Cheats and Other Proud Americans)

Head to Rathskeller Fork and talk with Jeb Blankenship about his missing love. Head to Tumbleweed before returning back to Jeb with his true love.

19. The Wronged Woman

(An Appointed Time)

Head to the Blackwater Chapel in the north of the city after 6 p.m. Talk to the young woman at the altar. Then head to the Saloon and talk to Harold Thornton. Go outside with him and kill him in a duel. Loot his corpse and return to the chapel. After a day or two, head to the graveyard behind the chapel to complete the mission.
